No doubt about it, there’s lots of doubt and worry out there, given on-again, off- again wars, gloomy consumers, and tariffs — as well as upcoming and potentially disruptive elections. And so on.
These and other economic headwinds discourage business leaders from making any bold marketing and advertising investments. But for the promotional products industry, there is some encouraging news: over 2025, after two consecutive quarters of decline, the market rebounded in the second half of the year.
2025 Started Weak, Ended Strong
According to industry research, North American promotional products distributors reported:
- Record sales of $27.7 billion in 2025, up 4.2% from $26.6 billion in 2024
- Fourth-quarter sales growth of 5.1% year over year, making it the strongest quarter of the year and exceeding the third quarter's 5% growth
Admittedly, some of the revenue bump reflected higher selling prices. Even so, the results demonstrate that many organizations view promotional products as a proven, effective marketing investment.
Why? We believe both cyclical and one-off actors are driving demand, including:
Companies know they must promote their brands. Even in rough or uncertain economic times, businesses can't afford to let competitors gain an advantage — whether online, at trade shows, in their communities, or through branded merchandise. And staying visible remains essential in this attention-driven economy.
Many decision-makers are now ready to invest. Organizations that postponed promotional purchases during the past couple of years (given the uncertain times) finally are moving forward. Apparently, they recognize that strategic branding delivers measurable value, and there is no point in delaying their campaigns.
Sports are creating timely marketing and advertising opportunities. Currently, major sporting events, such, as the 2026 FIFA World Cup, are providing unique opportunities for widespread exposure. Branded apparel, drinkware, giveaways, and similar promotional products travel far beyond the event itself, turning customers into brand ambassadors. This applies especially for those businesses and hospitality organizations that do business where the events occur, as well as for sporting event’s direct sponsors.
The recognition that branded apparel always strengthens workplace culture. From simple T-shirts to complete uniforms, branded apparel helps build employee pride, reinforces professionalism, and creates a more consistent customer experience. These factors mean clothing team members in outstanding organizational apparel is a especially great idea in such uncertain economic times.
Post COVID-19, corporate events are making a strong comeback. The volume of business conferences, fundraisers, golf tournaments, customer appreciation events, and trade shows continues to rebound, according to Booking.com. Since 2020, there probably haven't been this many event-related opportunities for organizations to showcase their brands. This makes the time especially ripe for investments in banners, clothing, and the like.
Economic uncertainty will always create reasons to delay ad investment. However, organizations that market themselves even during the most challenging times can, potentially, emerge stronger than those competitors that freeze their promotional efforts.
