What Is DTG Printing?

Direct-to-Garment printing uses specialized digital printing technology to apply artwork directly to the fabric of a garment.

Unlike traditional screen printing, which requires separate screens and setup for individual print colors, DTG can reproduce detailed, multi-color artwork without creating a screen for each color.

That makes DTG particularly useful for small quantities, highly detailed artwork and full-color designs.

When Does DTG Make Sense?

DTG can be an excellent option when flexibility, detail and full-color reproduction are important.

The best decoration method depends on the garment, artwork, quantity and intended use.

That's why Cool Air offers multiple decoration technologies rather than trying to make one process fit every project.

One Shirt Really Means One Shirt

Yes. We Can Produce 1 Custom DTG Shirt.

Digital printing eliminates much of the traditional setup associated with screen printing, making extremely small production quantities practical.

That flexibility is also valuable for online stores and merchandise programs where individual designs, sizes and quantities may be produced as orders are received.

From Artwork to DTG Printing

Digital garment printing eliminates screens, but producing a strong finished product still requires the right artwork, garment and production preparation.

Project Review

We review the quantity, garment, artwork and intended result to determine whether DTG is the right process.

High-Volume DTG Capability

DTG isn't only for one-off shirts.

Cool Air operates multiple high-end, large-volume DTG production lines capable of producing hundreds of shirts per day.

That allows us to use digital garment printing not only for individual and short-run orders, but also for larger programs where full-color artwork, multiple designs or production flexibility make DTG the appropriate solution.

1 Piece to Hundreds Per Day Digital production provides unusual flexibility across both very small orders and larger full-color programs.

DTG vs. Screen Printing

The right answer depends on the project.

DTG Printing

DTG is often ideal for smaller quantities and detailed, full-color artwork.

It is particularly useful when artwork contains many colors, photographic detail or when only a small number of garments are needed.

Screen Printing

Screen printing can become more efficient for larger quantities, particularly when artwork uses a limited number of colors.

It remains an excellent option for large apparel runs, event merchandise and many traditional T-shirt programs.

Because Cool Air produces both processes in-house, we can evaluate the project rather than simply recommending whichever machine happens to be available.

DTG for Online Stores

DTG can be particularly valuable for company, school, fundraising and merchandise stores.

Digital production can allow certain products to be produced in smaller quantities, helping reduce the need to maintain large inventories for every design and size.

Approximately 100 Active Online Stores Cool Air's online store programs are supported by our apparel decoration, warehousing and fulfillment capabilities.

Artwork & Garment Selection

Artwork Matters

DTG is particularly capable of reproducing detailed, multi-color artwork, but proper artwork preparation remains important to the finished result.

Graphic design and artwork preparation services are available when needed.

The Garment Matters Too

DTG performs differently depending on fabric content, garment color and construction.

Our team can help determine whether DTG is appropriate for your project and recommend garments designed to produce strong digital-printing results.
